George and Jane Jetson live in Orbit City in the Skypad Apartments with their children Judy and Elroy. The family pet, a dog called Astro, had been the mutt of the millionaire JP Gottrockets, but longed for a simpler life which the Jetsons provided. The 1960s series had devices that didn’t exist at the time but have now not only been invented but are common - a flatscreen TV, newspapers on computer screens, a computer virus, video chat, a tanning bed and home treadmill (we were also promised flying cars, but that awaits a distant time). The family maid, a midrange robot called Rosie, is an XB-500 which they got on a longterm lease from U-Rent-A-Robot company (it was the best model the Jetsons could afford). Like all homes and businesses in Orbit City, the Skypad Apartments are on columns above the clouds and the murderous pollution on Earth. I mention this because my home now features a device that would have been familiar to George and Jane. Its functions are stunning as I now explicate.
