A pub in Bavaria features a proud German tradition, called Weißwurstfrühstück, a white sausage breakfast that consists of sausage, pretzels with sweet mustard and an ocean of wheat beer. The comestibles are brought to your table by bosomy dirndl-clad waitresses, the kind you see at Oktoberfest holding six beer mugs in each hand. Obviously, it’s really important to eat your white sausages before the church bells ring at midday. Nobody’s quite sure how the white sausages got started, but the most popular story is they were invented by accident. In 1857, young Munich innkeeper, Sepp Moser, ran out of sheep casing for his sausages so he used pork ones instead. The locals take a laissez-faire attitude to the boozy breakfasts. Here’s what one Munich pub owner had to say.
