Words in English usually have pretty similar histories - Latin or Greek usages, on to German or French and then they join our Mother Tongue in Olde Englishe. Kibosh doesn’t fit that mould. Its origin may be Arabic, Yiddish, Low German or Irish Gaelic. Nobody’s really sure. We do know it means a decisive end to something straightaway.
