A shining gem of downtown Duluth, Minnesota, is the Oliver Inn, a boutique hotel where Leesa and I are staying tonight. In 1889, it served as the Duluth City Hall and it features several rooms, each with a different decor and history. We’re in the Mayor Snively room because how could you not. Earlier today, we toured the Glensheen Mansion on Lake Superior, the family home of Chester Adgate Congdon, Esq, the head lawyer for the Oliver Mining Company. Seems circa 1903, the Rockefeller brothers wanted lands owned by the Olivers and Mr Congdon successfully kept Nelson’s forebearers at bay. For this he was paid handsomely, resulting in a vast estate on the banks of an inland ocean in Duluth. But an ugly double murder awaited.
