Sean Connery, born on this date in 1930, came to the world’s notice as James Bond in the early 60s, but his best work came later in such films as Murder on the Orient Express, The Name of the Rose and The Man Who Would Be King. His career was hugely successful, but his start was a humble one with a series of odd jobs, a three-year stint in the Royal Navy and time as a body-builder. Connery was proud of his hardscrabble Scottish roots as this story reveals.
