Pretentiousness in naming retail shops, condos, rental properties and housing developments knows no bounds. The quotidian Fox Hollow Run near Saratoga offers no foxes, hollows or runs. The Enclave On 50, an ordinary rental “community”, sits on a featureless stretch of New York Route 50 past featureless auto repair businesses, strip malls and similar affronts to good taste. I used to get my hair cut at Simplicity, A Salon. That construction, apparently, intends to convey a sense of import not apparent in a tarted-up beauty parlor. You’ve doubtless seen examples of what I’m on about. But one local development has well and truly taken the ostentation gâteau once and for all.
