The late William Weaver, a famed translator of novels from the Italian to English, made a great deal of money on his translation of Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose. So much in fact, he put a grand addition onto his Tuscan villa. A man of civility and wit, Weaver called it The Eco Chamber. Mr Eco was born this day, 1932, in Allesandria, Italy. But there’s an even better reason to celebrate.
