The People of the Book - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - believe everlasting life in Heaven awaits as a consequence of behaving properly whilst on the corporeal plain. But early on, the notion got around that you didn’t have to die to get there. In fact, a conduit existed between Earth and God which you could climb and descend and Angels did it on the regular. It was described in no less than Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament. There are a bunch of interpretations of the symbolism and they got more sophisticated as humans became more complex. Much of it reveals more about psychology than religion. Here’s what I mean.
