One of my favorite people in the world is Bill Marotta, with whom I toil at the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, NY. He had an illustrious career at AT&T and he’s the most upbeat, charming fellow (his motto is, “I just want everybody to have a good time” - and he means it). Marotta isn’t merely affable, he’s forgot more about thoroughbred racing than most people know, making him the perfect docent for the museum. Yesterday, for example, out of the sheer goodness of his heart, Bill gave me three Monte Christo Cuban cigars because he knows they’re my favorite - and bloody hard to obtain in this country at any price. For me, these aren’t just good smokes, they’re extraordinary for another reason I now reveal.
