There are some 9.5 million quotes on how incredibly edifying travel is. Old timey experts claimed it deepens your soul, broadens your horizons, slays your prejudices, enriches your mind, makes you better looking, improves eye/hand coordination and adds shine, lustre and bounce to your hair. I can’t find one wise man or woman who said, “You know what, stay home. There’s nothing beyond [your burgh name here] apart from tourist traps, gastrointestinal distress, malodorous cabbies, cut purses and syphilitic street walkers”. Travel makes you a saint/poet/philosopher - Ram Dass with a boarding pass, Rick Steves with a normal voice. I’ve been a Multinational Road Warrior for many of my seven decades and here’s what I know.
