The other day, an 82-year-old woman in a Long Island nursing home was pronounced dead and carted off to a Port Jefferson funeral home. A couple of hours later, however, noise from her body bag suggested the dearly departed’s demise was - what’s a good word here? - incomplete. On February 3rd, another 82-year-old was discovered quite alive at an Iowa undertaker. She’d been at the Glen Oaks Alsheimers Special Care Center in Urbandale. The center's executive director, Lisa Eastman, said the center has been in communication with the woman’s family. "We care deeply for our residents and remain fully committed to supporting their end-of-life care," Eastman stated, even if said life is not at an end in the technical sense. The details which follow feature bells, graveyard night watchmen and the Father of our Nation.
