Somebody sent me the picture below the other day and the sender asked if I was leading a double life in England as the guy who portrays the Sheriff of Nottingham, the villain in the Robin Hood tale. I had to admit the chap does look like me, apart from the fact he has proper facial hair and a chain of office. I have neither. In literature and film, the Sheriff is uniformly portrayed as lecherous, vain, greedy and generally vile, so I get the resemblance. But the problem is, there’s never been a Sheriff of Nottingham except in the Robin Hood legend. The modern day bloke in the north of England, with whom I’ve communicated, actually has a huge following and uses his skills to raise money for charities. Talk about playing against type. As for me, over the years, I’ve been told I look like a couple of different guys.
