St Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274) is perhaps Christianity’s greatest philosopher and his works are still the source of scholarly study around the world. Because he was born into a noble family which recognized his exceptional mind, he was educated to be a priest rather than train as a soldier. Thomas worked to synthesize Aristotelian concepts with Christian thought, but here we concern ourselves with just two moments from his eventful life. The first shows how very much his parents did not want him to join the Dominican order and the second, a triumph of good over evil.
