The New York State cities of Cohoes, Rensselaer, Albany and Troy are all atwitter because for the last couple of years The Gilded Age, an HBO series, has grabbed establishing shots and such like on their streets and film crews are back now at The Cohoes Music Hall to everybody’s delight. The stories revolve around the upper crust doings of posh New Yorkers roughly at the end of the 19th Century. There is, of course, the de rigueur upstairs, downstairs dynamic tension, too. Meryl Streep’s daughter is the cast in a performance so wooden as to be a fire hazard. But that’s not the only turd in the cut crystal punch bowl at this Debutante Ball. Amid all the finery, chintz and swoosh of petticoats, a gigantic error has been perpetrated upon the viewing audience and it’s writer Julian Fellows’ fault.
