There were a total of 31,533 Cessna 150s and 152s built between 1958 and 1977 and, out of those, about 72% are still flying. It’s one of the most successful planes ever. During the summer of 1972, having never been in a cockpit, I piloted one over Saratoga County. “This here airplane weighs less than a VW Bug,” the instructor told me before takeoff, which I did not find comforting. “Airplanes and thunderstorms don’t mix,” he continued not comforting me. “Now YOU ARE GONNA FLY THIS PLANE!”, heaping on the discomfort.
