Ernest B. Schoedsack was born on this date in 1893 and, whilst you may not know his name, you may have seen his work. He ran away from home at 14 and took a series of odd jobs, ultimately getting into the movie business. In 1933, he co-produced and directed King Kong, a horror film about a giant ape who’s captured on the remote Skull Island and brought to New York City where he’s put on display. The creature breaks free and attempts to possess a beautiful young woman, ultimately resulting in his death. Beloved by cineastes, it was named one of the best movies of all time. There are several things to know about it.
