Stations in the London Underground don’t have the grandeur of their Russian counterparts or the elegance of the Métro in Paris, but they’re highly efficient and reliable. The Embankment, on the Bakerloo Line, between Charing Cross and Waterloo, is one of the oldest, having opened in 1870. Part of the efficiency are computer generated announcements at every stop telling you to the second when a train is arriving. At every station that is, apart from the Embankment - and it’s for a stunningly charming reason.
