A lot of the 76,000 executives at GE Capital, where I worked for 18 years, held themselves in high regard indeed. A lot of them were right. We thought little of other parts of the company, the notion being, “We make billions a month. They make lightbulbs”. From time-to-time, we were required at some treacly kumbaya GE Corporate confab to prove we were actually GE employees. Two of the most interesting people I’ve ever met were at one such, both engineers. They revealed more of their inner lives than they intended.
