If you live in a big, old drafty house, as I do, and you’re a delicate flower, as I am, pajamas are just the thing on a cold winter night. Naturally, a gentleman such as myself prefers a Batman motif, unless this discommodes his wife, which it does. Many haberdashers vend flannel nightwear, but these are mostly simulacrum and not The Real Thing. The Real Thing can be got at Lee Vally, an Irish firm of surpassing quality. In the summer months, when I like to set the AC to blizzard, broadcloth PJs from Derek Rose in England are perfect (go to Woods of Shropshire for the best prices). The word pajamas comes into English from India, as do seersucker, cummerbund and catamaran. I mention all this for a very specific reason - and it’s not just holiday gift-giving.
