In the storied annals of the GOP, many luminaries stand out for substantive and farsighted contributions. Who can forget Senator James Inhof bringing a snowball into the chamber in February, 2015, demonstrating conclusively climate change doesn’t exist. Or former Congressman Madison Cawthorn suggesting he was invited to cocaine orgies by House members dedicated to fighting drug abuse. But a special Lifetime Achievement Award must go to Marjory Taylor Greene for claiming in 2021 wildfires in the American West were started by Jewish Space Lasers. It’s a highly competitive field and Republicans fight each day to take their place in the pantheon. It is not, however, a new phenomenon. Consider just two examples from the 20th Century.
