Incident on King Street
On March 5th, 1770, British troops shot Americans who’d been harassing them. The roots of the attack, which came to be known as The Boston Massacre, were economic. Britain had imposed onerous tariffs on lead, glass, paper, paint and tea Americans were required to buy from England. The Colonials thought themselves British subjects and felt such fees were gravely unfair. The incident was one of the triggers of the American Revolution and, after yet more taxes from London, The Boston Tea Party would occur three years later. But what happened in the wake of the Massacre was surprising in the extreme.
