At New Bellevue House, March comes in like a Brahma chicken [see below] and God only knows what it goes out like. From 1850 to 1930, Brahmas were the principal chicken meat consumed in the United States. The bird may have originated in China or India, except nobody cares. Turns out the whole “in like a lion, out like a lamb” thing itself is not with out controversy - Wikipedia calls it “an old Pennsylvania saw”, but the first citation is from the 18th Century.
