The Washington County, NY, Antiques Fair, now in its second sun-drenched day, boasts hundreds of vendors, 6 food trucks and 5 port-o-potties over acres and acres. It does not, however, boast much in the way of antiques. On offer were eight track cassette players, lawn mowers, baby clothes, power tools, crude ersatz Meissen figurines, kitsch galore - and bongs - none of which seemed especially long-in-the-tooth. Antiques? Ah, no. I harbored hope on the journey to the event, but my wife was right in her assessment. It was a vast collection of junk wishing to be cast off (“Hey, guys! Everything on this table’s just a $1!”). The excursion did bring to mind the single oldest item I possess.
