There’s a season to some words and phrases. They gain popularity for a time, then fade, often deservedly so. Flower power, gnarly, radical, da bomb, not!, epic and homie have enriched our discourse by leaving. When it comes to words, no human endeavour is immune. In business, Six Sigma followed matrix management, right-sizing followed outsourcing, the new normal followed paradigm shift. For a time at GE Capital we had the eBoardroom, so named because each participant got a laptop. Today, most every scary threat is an “existential” threat. But there’s one word above all that I predict will not withstand the test of time.
