It’s a red letter day for the Welsh, the Feast of Saint David or, in the Welsh language, Dewi Sant. He lived c 500 to c 589 and was a deeply religious man who’s famous for performing an amazing miracle. Preaching in the middle of a large crowd at the Synod of Brefi, the ground on which he stood suddenly rose up to form a small hill. Then a white dove, which became his emblem, suddenly settled on his shoulder. An English historian snottily notes that one can’t "conceive of any miracle more superfluous" in Wales than the creation of a new hill. Goofy miracles are the least of St David’s accomplishments.
