My childhood friend is an avid gun collector and, when I visited him years ago, I fired every weapon he owns, including an AR-15. He’s the sort of firearm enthusiast who would buy a tactical nuclear weapon if he could. There’s a difference to guns, bullets and what they do, of course. Glocks are like handheld cannons, a 22 rifle is a peashooter and the AR-15 is designed for abject slaughter at a remove. When I wrote that America is the only nation that fetishizes gun ownership, it brought a full-throated rebuke from a different guy, a former coworker living in Switzerland.
