I awoke at 6 this morning to the soothing sounds of giant Twin Bridges garbage trucks rumbling about the New Bellevue House estate. They arrive each Thursday at that delicate hour to create the maximum cacophony whilst collecting wheelie bins from the main house, the guest house, the out buildings and stables. There’s also a tractor which attaches to the dumpster that holds immense piles of horse leavings. Dogs bark, geese honk, the ducks take flight and babies wail, but I grumble all quiet-like so as not to disturb the Mrs. The ruction got me wondering what happens to the millions of tonnes of refuse we all create every year. My search turned up more than I bargained for.
