The list of things invented in Scotland is long and varied - colour television, the telephone, disposable contact lenses, the refrigerator, animal cloning, the ATM, MRIs, penicillin, the flush toilet and, well, you see my point. Now comes word of an even greater accomplishment, the first recorded use of the F word in history. According to The Scotsman newpaper, it’s found in a parchment that was a light-hearted rap battle between two poets in Edinburgh before the Court of King James IV around 1500. Nobody’s saying Scots invented the term, but they did write it down. Here’s what it looked like over 500 years ago.
