On the evening of June 28, 1997, in the middle of a Heavyweight Championship fight in Paradise, Nevada, Iron Mike Tyson bit off the top of Evander Holyfield’s right ear, which began to bleed profusely. Incredibly, the referee, Mills Lane, didn’t stop the match. Later in the fight, Mr Tyson bit Mr Holyfield’s left ear - and Mr Lane still allowed the match to continue, with the combatants going at it until time expired. Evander was declared the winner by way of Mike’s disqualification, Evander remained WBA Heavyweight champion and the bout generated the equivalent of $328 million when adjusted for inflation. Now, 27 years on, there’s been an astonishing development as a result of that gruesome incident.
