Here’s me this spring afternoon studying the easy-to-follow Patient Package Insert (PPI) for a perfectly ordinary compound that’s meant to do one thing or another, but also may result in a gooey death or cause claws to grow from my hands. One of the document’s common terms is “adverse events”. The medical/pharmaceutical world is given to understatement, so the expression actually means, “Oh, yikes! That’s nasty!” As a young man, I worked in Big Pharma for a couple of years and here’s what I learned.
