Ellsworth Kelly was one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century. His works demonstrate unassuming techniques emphasizing line, color and form, often using bright colors. "I realized I didn't want to compose pictures,” he said in an interview. “I wanted to find them. I felt that my vision was choosing things out there in the world and presenting them. To me the investigation of perception was of the greatest interest. There was so much to see, and it all looked fantastic to me." Kelly was drafted into the US Army in WW II and requested to be assigned to the 603rd Engineers Camouflage Battalion, which took many artists. There, he was one of the artists who created The Ghost Army of inflatable tanks, trucks and other elements of subterfuge to distract the Axis powers. He was the very embodiment of a modern artist and that’s why one of his biggest influences is such a surprise.
