Today is the feast of St George, patron saint of England, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Malta, Ethiopia, as well as Catalonia and Aragon in Spain and the City of Moscow. In the Christian religion, he ranks among the “megalomartyrs”, people who endured extreme torture, performed miracles and converted thousands of unbelievers to the faith. He is believed to have been a Roman soldier who died on this date in 303 CE by beheading because he wouldn’t renounce his belief in Jesus Christ. His big claim to fame is the whole dragon thing, on which the inside scoop follows.
