The US Congress annexed Hawaii on this day in 1898. The joint Congressional resolution, signed by President McKinley, paved the way for the islands to become a US territory and eventually a state. Coincidentally on this same day that year, singer Don Ho recorded Tiny Bubbles which became a giant hit on AM radio. The next year, on Oahu, Dog the Bounty Hunter nabbed a bail-jumper in America’s first reality TV show. In 1900, Germany bombed Pearl Harbor. A lot of people say it’s true. It’s what many people are telling me. I don’t know. We’ll have to see what happens.
