Back in the Saddle
It’s been my fate for decades to be surrounded by horses and their tack, both in past relationships [with humans I hasten to note], in mucking stalls and, now, guiding happy tourists at Saratoga Springs. I cannot fathom the connection so many people have with these animals, beautiful as they are, but the facts are undeniable. Everyday I see the hundreds transfixed by races which, to my eye, are nothing but repetitious noise. For me, the end of the season 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd. To tell a tale out of school, I may not be alone in feeling this way hereabouts. Now comes scholarly word about the discovery of an ancient saddle.
