National Hot Dog Day is a major festival throughout the hot dog eating world, that being mainly the US, Canada and Australia. The epicenter of the event is Alfred, NY, which The Washington Post named "the collegiest college town in America" due to its high ratio of students to non-students. Scholars there created it in 1972 because the quote unquote food is cheap and there’s absolutely, utterly nothing to do in Alfred once the pot dealer goes home to New Jersey for the weekend. The 2023 NHDD was celebrated in America last Wednesday, but Leesa and I had a conflict and are enjoying the holiday today instead.
