A Furrowed Brow
La Marseillais, the word delirium and deep lines on an old geezer’s face all have one thing in common and no, I have not been day-drinking, but perhaps I’ll start after this story. Let’s begin with delirium. It’s Latin root means to leave the furrow, a farming metaphor suggesting departing from a straight line, to behave in an erratic way. Lines on my 69-year-old mug are called furrows, from the same Latin meaning. But it’s the French national anthem that will surprise you.
