The ancient church in Canterbury in Southeast England was endlessly fascinating to me when I was in grad school there. It was founded in 567 CE when the first archbishop turned up to build a cathedral, but the site was likely a place of worship for hundreds of years before. It contains the tomb of the Black Prince so named because of the colour of his armor. That armor is a perfect replica of his armor in life and it was lovingly recreated for his effigy. The Cathedral also contains what may be the oldest stained glass window in the world. Thomas Becket was murdered there in 1170. But what happened during the Battle of Britain is stunning.
